Most only see northwest Indiana’s (NWI) rusty girders, blazing steel scrubbers, and stacked frame houses from the old truss bridges and elevated pavements that make up the “Skyway” on their way in or out of Chicago.
Drive into the bowels of all that past the Vegas-style marquees of the casino and into the backlots of the oil refineries and things open up into a Chicago version of Urban Cowboy.
NWI is the real-life manifestation of a Budweiser commercial as narrated by Sam Elliott. The union is life, lager flows, hands are calloused, and rivets are driven. It’s utterly beautiful.
