Kickin' Korean BBQ, Heavy Metal Burgers, Chowtastic Carnitas, Best Beef, and Delicious Deep Dish, plus the Alinea Cookbook Contest Winner
I hope you’re all keeping safe. I have interviews with former Next restaurant chef Jenner Tomaska, super-hilarious food writing satirist Dennis Lee, and Boka pastry chef, and in my opinion, the best pastry chef in Chicago, Meg Galus coming your way in the next week in a half.
Additionally, I did a randomized sort on the paid subscriber list five times to choose the winner of the first edition Alinea Cookbook, and the winner is Alexander Hibbs (I’ll be in touch to get shipping info)
AND for today, we return with your twice weekly Chicago delivery and takeout recs:
Andersonville
Passerotto – The kalbi for two, marinated Slagel Farm short ribs and a whole slew of sides is the one stop Korean BBQ care package of your dreams.

Avondale, Schaumburg, West Loop, Vernon Hills
Kuma’s Corner - Slay the pandemic with the Slayer burger, which is not so much a burger as a mountain of carbs and fat including a 10 oz Burger on a bed of fries, with chili, caramelized Onions, andouille sausage, cherry peppers, Monterey Jack cheese, scallions, and a side of “anger”. If you’re more of a traditionalist, there is no shortage of Heavy Metal-themed burgers to quench your beefy desires.

Carnitas Uruapan – You know you want silky pork cooked in pork fat on tacos. This is the spot for you to get just that. Throw in some chicharron, refried beans and crispy tacos dorados, and you have a porky feast fit for a pandemic.

Little Italy
Al’s Italian Beef (Taylor Street) -. The OG location serves the best beefs of the burgeoning chain. Don’t forget the super fiery giardinara. I know you like your sandwich dipped, but consider ordering a side of gravy instead and dip the thing yourself when it arrives, because pre-dipped delivery beef is just going to be a sopping wet mess.

Roscoe Village and West Town
Bartoli’s – Yeah, you only eat deep dish once a year, but now is the time! There may be no better deep dish pie in the city than this one from the grandson of a former founder of Geno’s East.
