Mother's Day Pastry Options, A Frost Advisory, BBQ Duck, BBQ Ribs, Killer Crab, Poppin' Pasta, and a Donations Update
Wut up, pandemigos?
I hope as always, everyone is suitably stocked in cocktails, or whatever gets you through. I’m excited for next week as we have two interviews coming from Chicago’s sandwich kings including OG, legit Food Network star (The Kitchen) and Chicago-native Jeff Mauro, as well as Ethan Lim, owner of Hermosa restaurant, purveyor of Cambodian fried chicken and moo ping and Korean steak sandwiches that will make your mouth weep with joy.
As a general update, we have raised $2,750 dollars. $2,300 has been donated so far -donation receipts for your perusal are attached at the bottom. I’m hoping to cross the $3,000 mark next week. Now is the time to subscribe and help out hospitality folks if you can afford it. If you already subscribe, you’re awesome.
PSA1: If you stupidly planted half your garden, as I did last weekend, you might want to throw some blankets on the plants tonight, as it’s supposed to drop to near freezing here in Chicago.
PSA2: Mother’s day is Sunday. I highly recommend picking your mom up some Aya pastry as itemized below in your twice weekly quarantine takeout and delivery food guide.
West Town
Aya Pastry - yes, that’s a Girl Scout-inspired Samoa cake. It’s like a cross between a Hostess Sno-Ball baked at a much higher level and the Samoa cookie you’re familiar with. All the pastry here is grand and you can get pick up and delivery.

Uptown (pick-up only)
Hon Kee - Craving Chinese bbq duck and pork like the one pictured below? Hon Kee on Argyle just reopened and is serving their incredible roast treats.

Lincoln Square
Spoon Thai - This spot is the OG when it comes to offering authentic Thai treats like crispy rice salad, Issan sausage and more. I had it last weekend and the khao soi noodles were bangin. If you like pad see ew, pad siew, or any of the 100 other spellings you see on menus, order the noodles extra crispy. This will blow your mind.

Pilsen
Honky Tonk BBQ - The only way to get rid of this terrible winter weather in May we’re experiencing is to pretend like it’s Memphis in May, aka, get yourself a heaping pile of ribs and hot links.

Little Italy, Downtown, Western Springs, IL
Davanti Enoteca - You know you want cacio e pepe pasta, but you’re too lazy to boil noodles, even though you have nothing, but time to boil noodles. That’s ok. Davanti has you covered. They also have meatballs and tiramisu so you can loll around on your couch like a giant meatball.

Wheeling, IL (Pick-up)
Bob Chinn’s - You know you’ve been missing gigantic buckets of Mai Tai cocktail, vampire-killing garlic rolls, and gigantic king crab legs! Well, miss them no more.
