The Best Food Writing In Chicago, A Thanksgiving Gift
It’s that time of year where we’re all thankful for things like not being out of work or without healthcare because our employer eliminated our job and fired us via a pop-up window on our laptop. Well, maybe that’s just me, because that’s exactly what happened to me last year.
So, I am thankful this year that I am once again gainfully employed. I am also thankful for another piece of news I got yesterday, which is that the Reddit Chicago Food, a vibrant independent community, named me and The Hunger as Chicago’s best food writer.
Normally I don’t put much stock in “best of” or “lists”, but this award is neither of those things. It represents a democratic vote of a lot of people who are passionate about local food.
Some of you reading this might even be here because you read about this on Reddit. Some of you have been lurking for quite awhile. Either way this work doesn’t happen without your support. Toward that end I’d love to give you a Thanksgiving gift, a discount on a paid subscription. Because we’re near the Black Friday zone, this will be the lowest price I’ll offer all year.
Supporting my work means that you’re ensuring independent Chicago food writing of high quality, podcast interviews, and reviews where I pay my own money, dine anonymously, and offer a true picture of restaurants and the local food scene unfettered by the need to generate clicks or ad revenue. No one else in Chicago is doing this.
By the way, if you love lists, nows a good time to subscribe, because not only will you get access to my 130+ best restaurants in Chicago list, I will be releasing a bunch of recaps of the best Chicago meals, places, and food things I experienced in 2024 over the next few weeks.
If you don’t like lists, well, maybe you want to see if you should drop $500 on a dinner at the Michelin 2-starred Oriole?
Whether you join me with a paid subscription or not, I’m grateful that you’re here and I hope every single one of you has a delicious and fantastic Thanksgiving!
